Keeping in local at The Pelican

The newly refurbished Pelican and their new frying range have only been open for 2 months but they already have seen an incredible 50% increase in trade! With a prominent location in Barnstaple, the 110 cover restaurant and takeaway is a key business in the area and since opening its doors again, the locals have been flooding back!

‘We completely gutted the site and were closed for four months,’ explained owner Martin James. ‘As it’s such a ‘local’ shop our customers were well aware what was happening and when we were re-opening but we’re still really pleased with how busy we are.’

Martin has had the business for over 20 years and wanted to take the opportunity to completely refresh and modernise it. Part of the refit included installing a 9 HE pan L-shaped range with one side frying specifically for the takeaway customers and the other for the restaurant. Martin choose 3 HE round pans to cope with his queues for the takeaway and has been really impressed with the ranges’ capabilities: ‘I’ve had a Florigo in my other business for 8 years so I know that they’re far superior ranges. Compared to the old range we had at The Pelican, we’re saving on oil as well as gas: it’s everything you want it to be!’

With the summer season just around the corner, the Pelican is looking to be even busier and Martin and his team are looking forward to it and raring to go!
